【SFC】Certificates for Alumni (graduated, completed, or withdrew from the program)

This page is meant for those who have already graduated (completed or withdrew after fulfilling course requirements) from an on-campus academic program at Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC).
Current students including new graduates before the date that their student status expires (Spring Semester: 21 September, Fall Semester: 31 March) cannot apply for certificates through this system.

  • Issuing certificates at other campuses
    Only certain certificates can be issued outside of the campus where you graduated (completed your program or withdrew from university). Be sure to check "4. Requesting certificates in person".
    For issuance of specialized certificates, such as filling out (transcript) request forms, please come to the Office of Student Services (Academic Affairs) counter on the first floor of the Alpha (A) Building.
  • Issuing specialized certificates
    Those requesting an AUD Certificate of Credit Acquisition, certificate related to teacher training education, or (transcript) request form should contact the Office of Student Services (Academic Affairs) (sfc-gakuji-req@sfc.keio.ac.jp) via email in advance.
  • Issuance of certificates for doctoral degrees
    The "Certificate of Completion" can only be issued to those who have completed their doctoral program and received a degree (cannot be issued to students who withdrew after completing the required coursework without submission of a thesis). The date of enrollment, date of program completion, and degree received will be shown on the certificate.
    The "Academic Degree Certificate" can only be issued to those who have received a degree after withdrawal from the doctoral program (after completing the required coursework) and those awarded a doctoral degree by dissertation review. **cannot be issued to students who have completed the doctoral program**

  • Other precautions
    We do not accept requests made by telephone, fax, or email.


Requesting certificates online (printing at convenience stores, online delivery of electronic certificates as PDFs, and certificates received by post)

Requesting certificates in person

  • For information on office hours and office closing periods, check Office/Campus Facilities.
  • Since certificate-issuing services will be suspended on system maintenance days, please check the maintenance schedule on this page in advance.
  • Please also bring proof of identification for the applicant.
  • If you wish to receive a certificate by post that cannot be issued on the same day, please bring a stamped return envelope with sufficient postage for the weight of the documents you wish to be returned.
  • It is also possible to designate a representative to complete the application on your behalf. In that case, please provide a letter of authorization from you (the applicant) and your proof of identification (with photo) as well as proof of identification for the representative.

Requesting certificates from within Japan by mail (certificates received by post)

  • It is also possible to designate a representative to complete the application on your behalf. In that case, please provide a letter of authorization from you (the applicant) and your proof of identification (with photo) as well as proof of identification (with photo) for the representative.
  • If there are any incomplete or missing entries or documents, we will not be able to issue a certificate until we can verify the correct information. All documents will be returned if we cannot verify the information within 3 months of receiving the documents.

Please send the following four items in a sealed envelope.


  1. Proof of identification (copy)
    Please refer here for details. Provide a clear, actual-size copy of the document.
  2. Application form (download and print for use)

    If you are unable to download the form, please write down the following required pieces of information.
    1. Full name (name at time of enrollment) / name in hiragana / roman alphabet (required for certificates in English)
    2. Date of birth (western calendar)
    3. Undergraduate faculty or graduate school 4. Student ID number (if you remember it)
    5. Month and year of graduation/completion/withdrawal
    6. Certificate type (in Japanese or English), number of copies
    7. Whether or not the envelope should be securely sealed / how the envelope should be prepared (e.g. which certificates and how many should be placed in each envelope)
    "Securely sealed" means that the certificate(s) are placed in a Keio-designated envelope and a seal is affixed to the envelope to prevent it from being opened.
    Please be sure to check your address before applying. We will not seal certificates after they have been handed over.
    8. Contact information (home address, telephone number, daytime contact details such as cell number or email address)
  3. Fees for issuing certificates
    Prepare a blank fixed postal money order (郵便定額小為替証書; yubin-teigaku-kogawase-shōsho) or a registered postal cash envelope.
    The issuance fee must be paid in advance. Make sure to send the exact amount (we will not refund any excess if you overpay for fees).
    - Certificate of Graduation (Japanese/English), Transcript of Academic Record (Japanese/English): 500 yen per copy
    - Request form: 500 yen per copy
  4. Return envelope: a stamped envelope with the applicant's name and address (no "care of" forwarding allowed)
    All certificates will be issued in A4 size. See below for return envelope sizes.
    - If you wish for the certificate to be folded in thirds: nagagata san-gō size (長形3号; 12 x 23.5 cm: letter size envelope)
    - If you wish for the certificate to NOT be folded: kakugata ni-gō size (角形2号; 4 x 33.2 cm: large envelope)
    - If you wish for the envelope to be securely sealed: kakugata-san-gō size (角形3号; 21.6 x 27.7 cm: large envelope)
    Please check the Japan Post website for the cost of stamps.

Amount of time required for issuance

For both Japanese and English certificates Certificate of Graduation (Completion) Same day (*1)

Other certificates In general, the next day or later (*2)

*1 Certificates cannot be issued during system maintenance periods. For details on the system maintenance periods, please contact the SFC Office of Student Services (Academic Affairs).
*2 Please note that it will take about one week to issue specialized certificates.

Procedures for changing one's name of surname, or reverting to one's previous name (*procedures differ from those made at the Office of Alumni Affairs)

Have you received your diploma yet?

Students who have yet to receive their diplomas are able to pick them up in person at the SFC Office of Student Services (Academic Affairs) counter. Keio University is also able to mail them to an address within Japan. We ask that you pick up your diploma as soon as possible.

Picking up a diploma in person
Please bring your student ID card. (If you have lost your student ID card, please bring any proof of identification.)
* It is also possible to designate a representative to pick up your diploma on your behalf. In that case, please provide a letter of authorization from you (the applicant) and your student ID card (or a copy of any proof of identification if you no longer have your student ID card) as well as proof of identification for the representative. It would also be appreciated if the representative could provide the applicant's student ID number (if you remember it) and month & year of graduation/degree completion in advance.

Receiving a diploma in the mail
Please send the following items.
- Student ID card (If you have lost your student ID card, please enclose a copy of any proof of identification)
- A written note with the applicant's full name, student ID number, faculty/graduate school, graduation date, contact information, and mailing address
- Return envelope (kakugata ni-gō size (角形2号; 4 x 33.2 cm: large envelope)): write your full name and address with a 740 yen stamp attached
*It is also possible to designate a representative to pick up your diploma on your behalf. In that case, please provide a letter of authorization from the applicant (you) and your student ID card (or a copy of any proof of identification if you no longer have your student ID card) as well as a copy of proof of identification for the representative.
