[Important notice]
Shutdown of campus facilities following declaration of a state of emergency (period extension)

April 28, 2020

To all Keio students:

Keio University Student Affairs Center

[Important notice]
Shutdown of campus facilities following declaration of a state of emergency (period extension)

Keio University implemented its own emergency measures in light of the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease). Following the declaration of a state of emergency by the government on April 8, the initial shutdown period of campus facilities was then extended to Wednesday, May 6.However, based on the situation regarding infections by COVID-19 at the present time, the Keio University Infection Response Center for COVID-19 has issued a further announcement, "Change to the Shutdown Period of University Campuses Following the Declaration of a State of Emergency (Part 2)," and the period prohibiting use of university facilities and entry to each campus (excluding Shinanomachi) has been re-extended.

Period: from April 7 (Tues.) until further notice (original shutdown planned until May 6 [Wed.])

We once again strongly urge all Keio students to continue to do their utmost to prevent the further spread of infections. Please take seriously your responsibilities as students of Keio University, maintain a deep awareness in avoiding "getting infected" and "infecting others," and exercise sound judgment and act accordingly.

1.No access to university campuses
Facilities on each campus will be locked down. Entry of all Keio students to Keio campuses is prohibited. However, considerations will be made to permit entry to certain facilities once safety has been guaranteed from the standpoint of preventing viral infections in order to carry out education and research at Keio campuses.

2.Ban on extracurricular activities

Please cancel all student club activities. However, online activities are permitted.

[Thorough prevention of infection by COVID-19 and limiting the disease's spread]

We also urge that all previous requests of the Student Affairs Center are more stringently observed.

To reiterate earlier requests, please continue to refrain from going outside when unnecessary or non-urgent, avoid creating situations resulting in "enclosed spaces," "crowded areas," or "close contact," and maintain efforts to avoid the outbreak of clusters (group infections). In particular, there have been cases of asymptomatic infections by COVID-19 (being infected with the disease without showing any symptoms). Please be sufficiently aware that you could still be a source of infection for other people and act accordingly.

Please take care of your health by getting sufficient sleep and maintaining a balanced diet, and enforce a strict regimen of wearing a mask and hand hygiene (washing hands, using a disinfectant, etc.). If you have cold-like symptoms accompanying a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher, please stay at home and report this to the Keio University Health Center. If returning to or entering Japan from overseas, please avoid going outside and continue to stringently monitor your health by taking your temperature twice daily for a period of 14 days from the date of your arrival in Japan (all countries and regions).

*Detailed information concerning COVID-19 is posted on the Keio student website (https://www.students.keio.ac.jp/en/com/class/schedule/covid-19.html).

Please endeavor to thoroughly implement measures to prevent the spread of infection after you have each confirmed this information.
