To all persons graduating/completing programs in September

Spring recruitment drives for hiring new employees in April are the norm for recruiting new graduates in Japan.
While there are rumors of the imminence of year-round recruitment, and divergences to traditional recruitment schedules are becoming evident, as a general rule all new employees will join their companies in April. There are also companies which accept applications for October hires. Nevertheless, applications will generally be for April hire in the year following graduation or program completion. It may also be possible to sound out the company on starting in advance of the April hire period after you have secured employment. If this is something about which you are concerned, you may wish to consult with a member of the HR team at the company.

Job Hunting Support System

Just as job hunting is timed to coincide with recruitment drives by companies, in principle the support system is also timed to coincide with these recruitment drives.

The systems can be availed of from the Fall Semester in the academic year preceding the year of your graduation.
*September 2020 and March 2021 graduates: From AY 2019 Fall Semester till program completion
*September 2021 and March 2022 graduates: From AY 2020 Fall Semester till program completion

Extensions to period of enrollment

Some students whose job hunting activities do not proceed as foreseen decide to remain in the same year or to extend the period of their enrollment in order to allow them to resume job hunting activities in the subsequent academic year.
However, you should be aware of the vagaries of economic trends and the potential prospect of sudden changes at companies effecting employment prospects. Do not take any decision lightly and endeavor to base any judgements on a careful confirmation of the systems and mechanisms in place.

Please ensure to register your current status as of graduation or completion in the Plans After Graduation (Shinro-todoke), regardless of when you will graduate or whether or not you will take up employment.
