The Graduate Schools of Keio University have the Research Associate (fixed term/research incentive) System to foster young researchers who will play an important role in future research activity as well as to promote their career growth. We expect that Second-year students enrolling in September and First-year and New students in the Ph.D. program will proactively take advantage of this opportunity.
Also, we would like our faculty members to guide students at your laboratories who are qualified to apply following certain procedures.

Nine appointees in Academic Year 2023(including appointees from the previous year)
Application eligibility: New doctoral program students starting from April 2023, first-year doctorate students, and second-year doctorate students enrolling in September at the Graduate School of Science and Technology. New students starting from April can hold the position until the end of their second year. Students enrolled in September can be hold the position until the end of the Fall Semester of their third year.
【Important Notes】
1)Students who plan to take a temporary leave of absence or study abroad during the appointed academic year may not apply.
2)The contract will be terminated if the research plan described in the application form is not implemented in a long-term internship, etc., within three months of appointment to the position.
3)The contract will be terminated at the time of program completion should you obtain your doctoral degree early.
4)When applying to extend an appointment as a Research Associate (Non-tenured)/Research Assistant, you must also have applied to be a Research Fellow (DC1, DC2) of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
*Concurrent application to be a Research Fellow (DC1, DC2) of the JSPS also reflects well when applying for a new appointment as a Research Associate (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant.
5)Applications to extend appointments the following academic year for students selected as a Research Associate (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant are also subject to screening and approved or denied based upon the student's research accomplishments, etc.
6)The following students cannot apply.
・Those who have been selected as a recipient of the JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists
・Those who have been selected as a Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship student
7)You may not apply if you will receive a scholarship from an entity outside of Keio or have been selected as a recipient of the Fujiwara Foundation International Student Scholarship. Please carefully check the details of scholarships for which you have been selected or are currently receiving and contact the Office of Student Services, Student Life Services Section if you have any questions.
8)Those who are selected as Research Associates (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant are not allowed to concurrently hold the following:
・Receive a salary as a project researcher or temporary employee
・Have full-time employment outside of Keio University
9)For international students, as the Research Associate (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant employment provisions stipulate 28 hours of work per week, please be aware that being appointed as a Research Associate (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant will mean losing the ability to earn a salary elsewhere.
Research Associates (Non-tenured) / Research Assistants are affiliated with the Graduate School of Science and Technology, but are not involved in its management. They are not, in principle, in charge of classes, etc.
Their duties are to assist with the promotion of the Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology, and proctor examinations within the university as well as entrance examinations. Promotion activities include giving lectures at primary schools, junior high schools, and high schools; participating in open campus events for the Faculty of Science and Technology; and conducting group activities among Research Associates (Non-tenured) / Research Assistants aimed at improving oneself to carry out these promotional duties.
・Research Associates (Non-tenured) / Research Assistants are allowed to work as a TA within Keio or lead tutorial hours at the Faculty of Science and Technology and receive compensation.
・Research Associates (Non-tenured) / Research Assistants cannot receive the KLL PhD. Program Research Grant (hereinafter, "KLL Research Grant"). If you have already applied for the KLL Research Grant and are selected as a Research Associate (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant, you must withdraw your KLL research grant application at that point.
Results will be released in written form in March 2023 following screening led by the Research Associate (Non-tenured) / Research Assistant Candidate Selection Committee. If selected, the appointment will be
