Application guidelines for "Food Assistance" to Protect the Livelihood of Keio Students (AY2023; second call)

Inflation is impacting the finances of Keio students. There are students who have no choice but to cover most of their living expenses through part-time work due to factors such as the financial difficulties of their families and living away from home, yet because of inflation, some students may be finding it difficult to afford sufficient food on a daily basis. To ease some of these anxieties and help students maintain the conditions that will enable them to devote time to their studies as much as possible, we are opening applications (second call) for food assistance in continuation of the Spring semeseter 2023. If you would like to receive assistance, please follow the guidelines and instructions below.

1 Details of Assistance

Selected students will receive 3000 yen's worth of "meal vouchers" (300-yen x 10 vouchers) that can be used at designated campus cafeterias and similar facilities.

*Meal vouchers can only be used at designated locations.
*Meal vouchers can be used at cafeterias and stores on all campuses.
*Meal vouchers expire on January 31, 2024. (However, if you will lose your status as a student before this date due to graduation, completion, withdrawal, etc., the expiration date of the vouchers will be the last day that you are registered as a student.)

2 Number of Recipients

300 students (subject to change)

3 Eligibility

Only those who meet (1) and any of the following conditions (2)-(4) are eligible to apply.

However, financially independent students or those who live with their family and commute to the university from home are also eligible to apply, when they must cover their expenses such as academic fees and grocery costs by themselves. In this case, priority may be lower than those who meet any of the conditions (2) through (4).

(1) Students enrolled at an undergraduate faculty or graduate school (including international students)
However, non-degree students, including non-degree students (for credit), and correspondence course students are not eligible to apply.
(2) Students who live away from home and commute to the university, are not receiving enough funds from home due to the financial difficulties of their families, and must cover their expenses such as academic fees and grocery costs through income earned from part-time work.
(3) Students from single-parent households
(4) Students from multi-child households

*Privately financed international students who have not completed the 2023 Fall Semester's "scholarship applicant registration" are also eligible to apply.
*If the address you are using now is not registered as your "current address" in the university system, please carry out the necessary procedures through the keio.jp site immediately to update your information.

4 Selection Criteria

Students who meet the following criteria will be given preference during selection.

  • Students who live away from home and commute to university, but due to their household's financial difficulties, are not receiving enough funds from home to support themselves. Household budget guideline: the total income of the salaries of those supporting the household (in principle, the student's parents) is around 8 million yen or less, and any business income they may have other than a salary is about 3.5 million yen or less.
  • Students from "single-parent" households
  • Multi-child households are defined as households with 3 or more children under the age of 23 supported by a primary financial provider. However, children of or over the age of 23 who are attending university or graduate school this semester can be included in the number of children.
  • Students who are applying for or receiving scholarships (priority will be given to those who are receiving scholarships under the New Higher Education Support System, private foundations, or the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO))

*We may refer to the information on the financial situation of your household that you submitted when you applied for scholarships.
*Those who were selected to receive food assistance in 2021 or/and 2022 are also eligible to apply. However, if they did not pick up their meal vouchers despite having been selected for food assistance in the past, their priority will be lowered during the selection process.
*Those who were selected to receive food assistance in Spring semester 2023 are also eligible to apply. However, when the number of applicants is over the limit, their priority will be lowered during the selection process.
