HS(Health Science) Perspective

The latest notice and information with the change of Academic Calendar and the Campus Shutdown are available on News at the keio.jp Portal. Be sure to check them.

Summary

Health is one of the most important keywords for the future of our society. Take a re-look at the list of courses atSFC from the viewpoint of "health". You will notice a large crossover between multiple academic disciplines, andrecognize the importance of having a cross-disciplinary way of understanding courses in various domains. Weencourage students to adopt cross-disciplinary viewpoints and thereby assimilate knowledge so that they cancontribute to identifying problems in our aging society as those relevant to the viewpoint of "health", and solving them.

Requirement

  1. You are required to earn 4 credits from the following 4 courses, "Physical and Mental Health for CampusLife," "Physical Education 1," "Physical Education 2," and "Physical Education 3."
  2. You are required to earn more than or equal to 8 credits from each of the four course groups; "Body", "Mind", "Society", and "Fundamental", and to earn more than or equal to 44 credits including the 4 credits described in the requirement of 1. (There are many courses that belong to more than a single course group. If you earn credit for a course which belongs to 3 groups, 0.34 times the number of credits you have earned from that course will be added onto the number of credits you have earned so far for each group. If you earn credit for acourse which belongs to 2 groups, 0.5 times the number of credits you have earned from that course will be added onto the number of credits you have earned so far for each group.)
  3. Out of the total number of credits you have earned, the number of credits for the courses that are markedas "Practical Training (*)" should be more than or equal to 4.

Course Groups

Summary

We separate courses into four groups, "Body", "Mind", "Society" and "Fundamental".

Group

  • Group 1 Body:These courses focus on the health of the body as a physical entity.
  • Group 2 Mind:These courses provide viewpoints to encourage students to think that not onlyexaminations of physical body but also those of the health of mind are significant for living a happy life insociety.
  • Group 3 Society:These courses discuss how the health of an entire society is necessary to assure thehealth of each individual who lives in that society. Through these courses, we want students to questionwhat a "healthy society" would be to assure the health of individuals.
  • Group 4 Fundamental:These are fundamental courses recommended as a foundation for the courses inthe 3 groups above.
