Keio's response measures to the COVID-19 (For Student Clubs)

As the spread of infections by COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) in Japan continues unabated, we strongly urge all officially authorized student clubs to do their utmost to prevent infection by COVID-19 and to limit the spread of the disease. As has already been announced, we are requesting for students to postpone or refrain from all nonessential or nonurgent meetings, and for the enforcement of measures to prevent infection by COVID-19 and to limit its spread; however, there are reports that some officially authorized student clubs are engaging in activities with little consideration for these measures. To ensure that club members are deeply aware of how to "avoid infection" and "infecting others," and that they take great responsibility as individual students of Keio University to put the appropriate measures in place, please thoroughly convey to all members the following points.

Postpone or refrain from all student club activities

In principle, please postpone or refrain from all student club activities, and endeavor to reduce the chance of close contact between club members. In addition, please refer to "Hosting of Events and Other Functions Involving Keio Students (Measures Against COVID-19 [Coronavirus Disease])" regarding whether or not to go ahead with events, meetings (including meals and drinking events), etc.

Student club activities for new members

Although we have urged students to postpone or refrain from nonessential or nonurgent meetings, some clubs are holding welcome parties or trials for new members. All activities for new members that involve meeting in person are prohibited. Promotional activities should only be conducted online via SNS, websites, etc. Furthermore, it has been decided to cancel all activities for new members in the 2020 academic year on Hiyoshi Campus.

Meetings on and in the vicinity of campuses

Please avoid meetings on or in the vicinity of university campuses, even when you have to visit a campus for unavoidable reasons. Obstructing commuters such as standing or meeting with people inside station buildings or near ticket gates is prohibited, as in addition to being nuisance behavior, such actions can become a source of infection.

Detailed information concerning COVID-19 is posted on the Keio student website (https://www.students.keio.ac.jp/en/com/class/schedule/covid-19.html). Please try to prevent the spread of infection after you have each confirmed this information.

Officially authorized student clubs

To all students responsible for clubs:

COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) (Student Affairs Center Part 1)

Although each student club is likely to have planned various events such as camps and social gatherings during the spring break, please keep in mind the following points when engaging in activities due to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) primarily in China.

■ Preventing infection

Please enforce a strict regimen of hand hygiene (washing hands, using a disinfectant, etc.). If you have any symptoms including a cough, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, or fever, please ensure that you wear a mask.

■ Reconsider the hosting of meetings and events. Presently, the highest risk for spreading infection is thought to be environments where many people interact or meet in close proximity (reachable distance if you mutually stretch out your hands) and converse, etc., continuously for prolonged periods of time. As far as possible, please take the necessary steps based on the characteristics of each club activity, such as postponing meetings and events, changing the way events are held, varying means of transportation, hosting online, etc.

■ Ban on travel to China

As of February 25, the infection danger level set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is at level 2 for the Chinese mainland (please stop all nonurgent and unnecessary travel). Keio students, faculty, and staff members are in principle prohibited from travelling to China until the danger level is lowered from the current level of 2.

■ Measures when returning to Japan from China. Keio students who have returned to Japan from China within the last two weeks are requested to follow the instructions on the below page and take the appropriate measures.
