Policies for Classes During Inclement Weather and Weather Alerts, Public Transportation Suspensions, Earthquakes, or Other Emergencies (Shonan Fujisawa Campus)

During emergencies, announcements about class cancelations and related information at Shonan Fujisawa Campus will be made on the Keio University Student Website and K-Support as detailed below.


  1. When severe weather conditions such as typhoons or heavy snowfall are expected to affect transportation systems as well as the safety of commuting students:
    1. Information about 1st and 2nd period classes will be announced before 7:00 p.m. on the previous day.
    2. Information about 3rd period classes and following periods will be announced before 10:00 a.m. on the same day.
  2. When unforeseeable emergencies take place such as earthquakes:
    Information about classes will be announced as soon as possible.

Classes held at the Faculty of Policy Management, the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, the Graduate School of Media and Governance, the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, and the Graduate School of Health Management will follow the policies below in the event of typhoons, heavy snowfall, weather alerts, suspended public transportation, earthquakes, or other emergencies. Please make sure to check announcements on K-Support.


  • For practical training courses in the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and the Graduate School of Health Management, please follow the instructions of the faculty member or the training course instructor based on the practical training guidelines.
  • For information on handling classes in the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and the Graduate School of Health Management to be held at Shinanomachi Campus, please refer to the separate guide listed here.

Circumstances in which severe weather conditions* or major accidents are expected to affect public transportation systems and the safety of commuting students:

*Class cancelations will be considered when at least one of the following weather warnings is issued.
When an "Emergency Warning" or "Storm Warning" including heavy rain, heavy storm, or heavy snow, is issued for Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Class cancelations and other actions will be considered based on the following guidelines.


Guidelines

In-person classes to be held at Shonan Fujisawa Campus

In-person classes will be canceled or moved online


  • If the in-person class is moved online, the course instructor will inform students accordingly on K-LMS before the class starts. Be sure to check online for announcements.
  • This does not apply to cases where classes are originally scheduled to be held online or on-demand. Those classes will be held as usual.
  • For in-person classes which are scheduled to meet outside of Shonan Fujisawa Campus, please follow the directions of the course instructor. Please note that for in-person classes in the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and the Graduate School of Health Management to be held at Shinanomachi Campus, announcements will be made separately on K-Support.

Semester-end examinations* that take place at Shonan Fujisawa Campus

Examinations will be canceled
Information about canceled examinations will be posted separately on K-Support.

*"Semester-end examinations" refer to examinations posted on the semester-end examination timetable announced by the university office and held during the semester-end examination period. For examinations that are not listed on the timetable and in-class examinations, please follow the directions of the course instructor.


Practical training courses in the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and the Graduate School of Health Management (Nursing Major)

Please follow the instructions of the faculty member in charge of the practical training or practical training instructor in accordance with the practical training guidelines.


In the event of an earthquake:

If a large-scale earthquake (5 or larger on the Japanese seismic intensity scale) hits eastern Kanagawa, the university will consider canceling classes and other appropriate measures as based on the guidelines.


Guidelines

Classes/semester-end examinations will be canceled.

*Decisions will be made as appropriate to the situation at hand and posted on K-Support.


Other precautions

Please refrain from coming to Shonan Fujisawa Campus when the university has taken action as detailed above and classes have been canceled or moved online.
