Keio University has begun large-scale economic support utilizing the Degree Completion Scholarship for Keio students whose economic circumstances have deteriorated due to experiencing sudden changes in household finances or a reduction in income for part-time work due to the impact of COVID-19's spread.
The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who desire to study and are highly motivated to learn but due to deteriorating finances as a result of sudden changes in household finances, etc., or continuous financial difficulties, find it difficult to continue with their education. The recruitment of scholarship students for the Spring Semester of the 2020 academic year will especially focus on economic support for students who have experienced a dramatic deterioration in household finances, etc., due to the impact of COVID-19's spread, and the scale of the scholarship provision has been significantly expanded compared to previous years.
(The application guidelines for "students of households affected by severe disasters" such as damage from typhoons in 2019 will be announced separately.)

The "New Study Support System for Higher Education" (hereinafter the "New System") is an economic support system which was introduced in the 2020 academic year by the Japanese government. Undergraduate students who are from households exempted from paying resident tax or equivalent households are eligible. Students are also eligible in cases of sudden changes in household finances and earnings are expected to decrease to the same level as a result. (Certain conditions such as the student's academic record apply.) Students who are accepted can receive a stipend as well as a partial reduction in tuition fees. It can be received in conjunction with the "Degree Completion Scholarship." All students who have a possibility of being accepted for the government's New System are strongly recommended to apply as it is a generous support measure. (For details, please check the "New Study Support System for Higher Education" page on the student website.)
The Japan Student Services Organization's (JASSO) "Scholarship Payment Simulation (for guardians)" can be used to determine if there is a possibility of being accepted for the New System. Q. Although I have already applied for other scholarships, I would like to amend the contents of the Application Form and Applicant Information Sheet that I submitted at that time.

A. If you would like to revise the contents of an Application Form and Applicant Information Sheet you have already submitted, you will need to print out the finalized versions of these again, and after amending/adding information to the relevant parts in red, send them along with the other application documents.

Additionally, if there has been a change in the financial situation of your household since the time of your first application you may additionally send required documents based on the latest financial situation of your household.

Q. I do not have a bank account in Japan. Is it possible to apply using an overseas bank account as the destination for the money transfer?

A. Because money transfers will only be made to Japanese bank accounts opened in the names of students, if you do not currently have an account in Japan, leave the information for the account to which payments are to be transferred blank, and come to our office with this information once you have opened an account in Japan.

Q. It takes time to have various certification documents issued due to the impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease), and I am unable to prepare all of the designated documents by the second deadline (June 5).

A. If there are any documents you have been unable to prepare by the second deadline, firstly, please send by post the documents you have prepared up to then by the deadline. For the missing or incomplete documents, enclose an explanation letter (no prescribed format) in the envelope detailing their contents and the expected dates of submission and send them by post as soon as they are ready. The screening process may be affected or the money transfer delayed depending on the content and submission status of the missing or incomplete documents.

Q. I cannot log in to the Online Scholarship Application System.

A. As privately financed international students whose status of residence is "Student" do not use the Online Scholarship Application System, you are unable to log in. Please apply by e-mail using only the four documents detailed in "5. Application Documents" of the application guidelines.

Q. Is submission of the "Degree Completion Scholarship (Spring Semester) Checklist" required even if I have already applied for other scholarships?

A. It is not necessary if you have already submitted the "Checklist for Internal, Private Organization, and Local Government Scholarships" included in the Scholarship Information Guidebook for applications to other scholarships; however, even in this case, please check the "Degree Completion Scholarship (Spring Semester) Checklist" and send any additional documents required to apply for the "Degree Completion Scholarship."

Q. As the office is currently closed, I do not have the "Keio University Scholarship Information Guidebook"/"Keio University Graduate School Scholarship Information Guidebook" to hand.

A. The Scholarship Information Guidebooks are available online. The various forms that are required are also available for download. Please obtain any forms you do not have to hand from the webpage below.

https://www.students.keio.ac.jp/en/com/scholarships/apply/form.html

Q. I am international student, and I do not have a residence card because I have not entered Japan yet. Am I eligible to apply for a scholarship?

A. You are eligible to apply for a scholarship if you have completed the "Scholarship Application Registration" for Spring semester in AY 2020.

Q. If my application is not accepted for the first deadline, can I reapply for the second deadline?

A. Although screening for this recruitment will be divided into two periods depending on when the applications are submitted, because the recruitment is for the same scholarship, your application will only be screened once (you will not be able to reapply). Furthermore, the selection criteria are the same regardless of the screening period.

Q. I am international student and I cannot find out forms 1) and 4) from the student website. Where are they placed?
