Submission of a Copy of Your Residence Card

All international students are required to submit information on their residence card to the university on the following occasions:

1. When you enter Keio University
➝[For September 2026 Intake Students]Please submit clear images (or a copy) of both the front and back of your residence card on a single A4 sheet.
Make sure that the entire card is visible and that all information can be clearly read. (Please see the sample here.)
Please bring it to the Student ID Card Distribution venue at 9:00 a.m. on September 25.

2. When the extension of your period of stay is approved and you obtain a new residence card,

3. When a change in your status of residence is approved and you obtain a new residence card,

4. When you newly obtain "Permission to Engage in Activity other than That Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted"
➝For the occasion 2 to 4, please submit clear images of both the front and back sides of your updated residence card via K-Support>Applications>Residence Information Registration
* Make sure your address is printed on the residence card.
* Ensure that the entire card and all information on the card are clearly visible.

Status of Residence

Information regarding your status of residence is provided here.

1. Students who are entering Japan on a new visa or re-entering Japan on an existing visa

2.Students who plan to return to university from a temporary leave of absence
Students who plan to return to university from overseas must first obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and then apply for a visa.

Please contact the International Section of Hiyoshi Office of Student Services 4 months prior to the date you plan to enter Japan.

3.Students whose re-entry or residence card period has expired while they are outside of Japan
Students must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and then apply for a visa.
Please contact the International Section of Hiyoshi Office of Student Services 4 months prior to the date you plan to enter Japan.

4. Students who wish to change their status of residence or extend their period of stay
Students who wish to change their status of residence or extend their period of stay are required to go to the Immigration Services Agency and complete the procedures by themselves.

4-1. If you wish to extend your period of stay
You may start applying for an extension from 3 months prior to the expiration date of your status of residence, but no later than 10 days before the expiration date.

4-2. If you wish to change your status of residence

[Notes]
"Organization Part 1 and 2" of application form for "Extension of Period of Stay", a part of your application package, should be filled in and certified by Keio (fee applies).
Log in to K-Support and follow the links: Applications > Issuance of Certificates.

In addition, from July 1, 2026, an additional required document, the "Confirmation Form" regarding Japanese ability (free of charge), has been introduced for students who fall under the categories specified by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan.
Instructions on how to request these two documents will be sent via K-Support Message by the International Section of the Hiyoshi Office of Student Services approximately three months before the expiration date of your period of stay.
However, if you need to proceed with the application urgently, or if you plan to change your status of residence to "Student" from another status, please contact the International Section of the Hiyoshi Office of Student Services.

Scholarships

Scholarship application procedures vary depending on your nationality and status of residence.

International students whose status of residence is "Student" （留学）

International students with a status of residence of "Student" who wish to apply for scholarships through Keio University must complete the following two steps.

[Step1] Complete Scholarship Registration at the Beginning of Each Semester
To apply for scholarships, you must complete Scholarship Registration within the designated period every semester (spring and fall).

[Step2] Apply for Individual Scholarships
Once you have completed Scholarship Registration, you may apply for scholarships for which you are eligible, offered by foundations or Keio University. Information on currently available scholarships can be found on the page below.

*For scholarships listed only on 現在募集中の奨学金 (in Japanese) and not listed on the English page, students need to conduct all application procedures in Japanese, which include reading and understanding the materials, filling in application forms and being interviewed.
