Student Screenings for SFC courses (assignments/lotteries)

Student Screenings

Student screenings are conducted for many courses offered by the Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies before the start of classes. Plan your course registrations and work on screening assignments before the registration period by referring to course syllabi and other resources.

Types of student screenings

There are various types of student screenings:

  1. Assignment screenings
  2. Lottery screenings
  3. Other

Assignment screening process

Syllabi become available Check the assignments for the courses you wish to take. Syllabus and Timetable for the subsequent semester become available after the semester's grades are released.

Seminar:
Seminar syllabi become available in January for the Spring Semester and in July for the Fall Semester, and student screening begins at the same time. If you plan to register, check the syllabus immediately when it becomes available, follow the instructions, and submit the assignment via K-LMS. Assignment deadlines vary by Seminars, so be sure to check the syllabus. Details regarding the release of syllabi will also be posted on K-Support.
Period between syllabi release and the assignment deadlines

* Deadlines are set before the course registration period.
* From AY2026 onward, students submit screening assignments via K-LMS instead of SOL-A.
Submit your assignments by following the procedures outlined below. Refer to the "Guide to Navigating Student Screenings" for how to register for courses or submit assignments via K-LMS.

  1. A link to register for a course via K-LMS will be posted on the "Assignment Submission URL" section of the course syllabus. Register for the course through that link.
  2. Submit your assignment via K-LMS by the specified deadline. As the content and type of assignment varies by course, carefully check the syllabus before you work on the assignment.
First Course Registration Register for courses by going to K-Support > "Course Registration."
* Make sure there are no errors (e.g., exceeding the credit limit per semester) when completing the first round of course registrations. You may amend your course registrations during the second registration period.

  • *Limited registration: student screening pending = Courses for which student screenings will be conducted by the lecturer
At the beginning of the Second Course Registration Go to your course registration page and check whether you are permitted to register for the courses that you selected.

Status displayed when you have been permitted to register
  • *Limited registration: admitted students selected (can register now) = Courses for which you have been permitted to register

Status displayed when you have NOT been permitted to register
  • *Limited registration: admitted students selected (you have not been selected) = Courses that you have not been permitted to register
Second Course Registration Complete your registrations for the courses that you have been let into by going to K-Support > "Course Registration."

Additional Permission
For courses you have not been selected for, you may be granted additional permission to register during the second registration period if they are listed as "Yes(Additional permission accepted)" in the "student screenings" section of their syllabus. If you wish to register for them, follow the instruction in "About registration restrictions." Note that you may not be granted the permission, as handling of additional permission is left to the lecturer's discretion.

If you have obtained permission, you will be notified in an email sent to your keio.jp email address. Also, your status for the course on your course registration page will change from "*Limited registration: admitted students selected (you have not been selected)" to "*Limited registration: admitted students selected (can register now)." At this point, it is your responsibility to complete the steps to finalize the registration.

Important notes
  • After confirming that you are permitted to register for a course, you must finalize the registration by going to K-Support > "Course Registration". Obtaining permission does not mean that the registration is complete--your registration permission will expire if you do not finalize your registration by the specified deadline. Course registrations do NOT complete themselves automatically.
  • You must also complete the above procedures to register for any Seminars that conduct student screenings.
  • To prevent abuse of the system, certain measures may be taken against students caught seeking permission for a significant number of courses only to then NOT finalize registration (or cancel registration) after they have been granted permission.
