Academic misconduct

Any academic misconduct related to papers, assignments, examinations and etc. will be dealt with severely in the manner set forth by the Faculty Board.All fraudulent behavior may be treated in an equally severe manner,including in-class examinations and quizzes, paper, or Graduation Project.
If students are punished for cheating in accordance with Article 188 of the Undergraduate Rules and Regulations, they will not be allowed to receive credit and their course plans, such as advancement and graduation, may be greatly affected.
Students are expected to understand the following points, and to undertake examinations and other academic activities with both sincerity and integrity. Students must also strictly refrain from acts that may be mistakenly conceived as academic misconduct.Never forget that helping someone else to commit academic misconduct is itself also an act of misconduct.

Article 188 of the University Undergraduate Rules and Regulations (Excerpt)

A person who breaches these regulations or other regulations of the University established thereunder, or who neglects his/her studies, infringes dignity, or otherwise engages in behavior not befitting of a student shall be punished, according to the circumstances of the offense, by reprimand, deduction of marks, suspension, or expulsion. Disciplinary Actions for Academic Misconduct

  • Posting of the disciplinary decision
  • Failure of the applicable course
  • Failure or grade deductions for all courses taken during the applicable academic year or semester
  • Reprimands, including suspension or compulsory withdrawal, depending on the circumstances of the incident

Examples of Academic Misconduct

Misconduct in examinations

  • Cheating or Impersonation (arranging for someone else to take an examination for you)
  • Taking unauthorized material into an examination
  • Use, possession, and/or wearing of electronic and/or communication devices including, but not limited to smartphones and smart watches.
    * If a mobile phone or smartphone rings during the exam, the invigilator will temporarily take custody of it. This will be deemed academic misconduct.
  • Taking home any answer sheets
  • Intentionally failing to obey the proctor's instructions
  • Leaving the examination room without permission
    * Once the question sheet and answer sheet have been distributed, you must remain in the room until permission is given after the exam ends. Leaving the room without permission will be regarded as academic misconduct.
  • Any behavior that may be misconstrued as academic misconduct
  • Taking an exam for a course for which you are not registered
  • False declaration in the application for a makeup examination
  • Other similar behavior

Misconduct in reports and assignments

  • Impersonation (submitting work prepared by someone else)
  • Appropriation and/or plagiarism (copying without citations, including self-plagiarism)
  • Falsification and/or fabrication of data
  • Working together with someone else to produce assignment material
  • Use of generative AI that exceeds instructions given by the instructor
  • Other similar behavior
    * Using someone else's work or ideas without permission will be deemed academic misconduct, irrespective of intent.

Important points for Reports and Papers

Reports and papers are a critical measure of academic achievement. Take particular care in observing the following points:
  1. Clearly separate your opinion from quoted material
  2. Always provide citations when referencing and/or quoting the work and/or ideas of others(including the title, author, and page numbers; for websites, the URL, page title, and date of access).
  3. If you have referred to any books, articles, or websites, be sure to list them as references in the same manner as described above.
  4. Quotations should reproduce the exact words used in the original work (including any errors)
  5. There are specific rules for citing sources; be sure to follow these rules (see the references below for details).
  6. In the event that an instructor encourages or permits the use of generative AI, use it appropriately as specified by that instructor. However, the use of generative AI to produce reports or other assignments must be clearly disclosed within the submitted document.
