Classes in the Fall Semester of the 2021 academic year (2nd notice)

On July 27, it was announced that the hybrid format involving face-to-face classes on campus, with sufficient measures in place to mitigate the spread of infections, and online classes, which had been in place for the Spring Semester, would continue to be implemented for classes in the Fall Semester of the 2021 academic year. Following a comprehensive review of societal circumstances accompanying the start of the Fall Semester, including the status of infections and vaccinations for COVID-19, it has been decided that no changes will be made to the existing policy, and that hybrid-format education and research including face-to-face classes/examinations for each campus will continue.

While Fall Semester classes have already commenced at some faculties and graduate schools, a flexible response appropriate to ongoing developments will be adopted at respective campuses, which may include transitioning to face-to-face classes for subjects that had been tabled to take place online. Specific information on class formats will be communicated by respective faculties and graduate schools through keio.jp. At present, final exams for the Fall Semester are scheduled to take place on campus.

Since the workplace vaccinations began in June on Mita Campus, approximately 80% of students have now been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Meanwhile, it remains difficult to predict the ongoing threat posed by variant strains of the virus, and thus more important than ever that we follow infection control guidelines. Keio students are especially encouraged to remain vigilant in implementing basic infection mitigation measures, including, but not limited to, wearing face masks made with nonwoven fabrics when in classrooms.

Please be aware that changes may be made to class formats to prioritize the safety of all Keio students depending on the future situation regarding COVID-19. A separate announcement will be made should changes prove necessary.
